We said good bye to our Dear Aunt Sally. She went to Math Retirement Land and is lounging in the sun with Mad Minutes, Speed Drills, and Worksheet Packets. What does this all mean? I explained to the girls that teaching and learning is always evolving and stressed the importance of embracing better ideas. There was a time when Mad Minutes were all the rage and our only means of reinforcing math concepts was with mundane worksheets, work packets and that sort of thing. It's 2018... Hello EdPuzzles, Mindful Maths, Musical Moments! We know from our Middle School colleagues that there are always a few girls who confuse multiplication and division and forget left to right. The GEMS acronym is clearer and so, Dear Aunt Sally has been retired. The girls had 20 minutes to work with a partner to explain Aunt Sally's departure and GEMS arrival. They wrote one act plays, made movie trailers, Buncees, etc. Here are a few:
We wrapped up Unit Six in math (decimal concepts). The girls worked diligently on the challenging assessment and did a great job. The tests are in their work folders. The next unit will focus on the four operations of decimals.
April is National Poetry Month and we will celebrate all month. They practiced writing Piclits with Wordly Wise words. Some rhymed, some were silly while others very deep. Here they are:
We are beginning to prepare for our class chapel on April 23rd. Prayers have been written, scripts are in the works, and kindness themed stories are being refined. All are invited to attend (don't fret if you can't make it, it will be filmed).
